Viewsonic showed us 3 gaming monitors from their XG270 Elite series and 3 LED projectors that are super portable (well, two of them are). But I think my favorite product was their portable 15.6” IPS monitor, which is a first for them. I like the idea of being able to take an extra screen with me for editing video or photos.

XG270 Elite Series Gaming Monitors

This series of gaming monitor uses 27” panels and have super fast refresh rates. There are a few differences though starting with the Q, which has an IPS screen with Nvidia G-Sync. The QG ups the ante with an IPS Nano display (it extends the gamut to ~135% sRGB from ~100% of “regular” IPS) but loses a tiny bit in refresh rate. The QC in comparison is a curved MVA screen with AMD FreeSync and the most connectivity ports.

In common between all of them are:

  • Screen size: 27”
  • Resolution: Quad HD (2560 x 1440)
  • Rear lighting effects

The VG1655 is ViewSonic’s first portable monitor created for the likes of digital nomads, remote workers and business travelers. It’s got a nice, clean, professional look and has a built-in kickstand.

Charging is 2-way USB-C, so you can either plug power into the monitor and power your laptop from it or do the reverse: use your laptop to power the monitor. The power adapter provides 60W, with the monitor itself using only 7W.

Going street price is $179.99. You can also pick up a touch version, the TD1655 for $239.99.

Specs:

  • 15.6” IPS, FHD (1920×1080)
  • Weight: 2.1 lbs
  • All aluminum stand
  • Rear speakers
  • Rear controller
  • Ports: USB-C x 2, mini HDMI, 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Also included: USB-C cables x 2, HDMI to mini HDMI cable, 60W power adapter

Portable Projectors

We saw 3 projectors that varied in portability, from the pocket sized M1 Mini Plus, the ultra portable M1+ and the larger 4K flagship X10-4KE. They all use LED as a light source, so there’s no cost associated with replacing lamps. And with the LED’s lifespan being > 30,000 hours, they’ll keep on lighting for at least 10 years if used 8 hours a day, every day. No living person I know of uses this much screen time.

All of these products are wi-fi enabled smart devices, so you can update firmware and download apps on them for example. The larger X10-4KE is also compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant too, making it part of your IOT home. A nice plus is the inclusion of a remote control, though you could always download a controller app on your phone as an alternative.
