In AI2U, you play the main character living with his super kawaii, cat-eared girlfriend. And she loves you! …is what you thought, until it becomes clear that you’re more an object of obsession than one of love. In any case, if you value your life, you’d better find a way out of there! So lie, charm or persuade your way out of her grasp before things get too out of control.
The game itself is like a cross between FPS puzzle solving and visual novel, with mini-games and things like that. It’s got three levels, three characters and different scenes for each.
On the first level (as mentioned), you wake up in an apartment with your cat-eared girlfriend. The second level involves a witch in a fantasy world, and on the third level, you wake up on a spaceship ALONE – all colleagues have gone missing. Not to worry though, you still have the companionship of the holographic female assistant, though you’re not sure why she’s still active. You’d better figure out what’s happened to everyone… and hope Miss holo assistant isn’t the cause of the missing crew.
AI2U is programmed on the Unity gaming platform by AlterStaff, a team consisting of about 20 people across the United States. But what’s really interesting is that AI2U is not their first game. It’s actually a more polished, 2nd generation version of their first game, Yandere AI Girlfriend Simulator, which they released as a free demo. It was programmed in a record 3 weeks and went viral (it was the first of its kind as an AI game).
The newer AI2U is available on STEAM as an early access game. It’s currently the best reviewed AI game on the platform right now, being that AlterStaff has thoughtfully created the artwork by hand (not AI), while the text and responses are AI generated (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc).
This design route was chosen as a way to give players infinite possibilities with dialog. In other words, you can think up a million different ways to persuade your girlfriend to open a door for you – and she’d understand.
Give the game a try! It’s a cool concept and a nod to all things yandere (possessiveness in anime). It’s a great use case for AI that will keep you entertained for hours!
