OnePlus 8T – Their New Flagship Smartphone (Pepcom 2020)

OnePlus has a great reputation for high end smartphones, and their latest flagship model, the 8T doesn’t disappoint. Their specs are fantastic (at least on paper), with a 6.55” FHD+ AMOLED display, running at 120Hz that closely rival those of PC gaming monitors. High brightness levels of 1,100 nits allow for easy viewing under the sun.
Super fast charging offers a full day’s charge in 15 minutes. Dubbed Warp Charge 65, OnePlus cleverly connects two 2250mAh batteries in series (for 4500mAh) that takes 39 minutes for a complete charge. And no worries about overheating during a charge – 12 temperature sensors monitor for heat.
Under the hood, the main engine is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G and storage is the latest UFS 3.1 standard that improves random write speeds and consumes less power. This is the version of flash memory that’s only used in the best flagship phones.
If your carrier is capable of it, data connections can go up to multi-gigabit 5G using a Snapdragon X55 5G modem-RF system. That’s incredibly fast. It also supports Wi-Fi 6, the latest in wifi standards.

There are four cameras (plus selfie) on this one.
- Main 48MP camera with Ois (Optical image stabilization) to minimize blurry pictures (Sony IMX 586 sensor, f/1.75, 14-26mm lens)
- 16MP ultra-wide (f/2.2, 123-degree) angle lens lets you capture a wider landscape scene behind you, not just a close-up of your face.
- Macro lens for getting really close
- Black & White lens
The front-facing selfie camera is a stabilized 16MP lens. Video shooters can go up to 4k 60fps.
SOFTWARE
The OnePlus 8T is the first smartphone (not manufactured by Google) to ship globally with Android 11. Their version of the OS, Oxygen 11, includes many feature updates with the 3 biggest ones being:
- Customizable AOD (Always On Display)
- Zen mode 2.0 – offers you a break from the always-on lifestyle (literally a zen moment)
- Dark mode – for eye relief and battery savings
