Destination Cosplay @Anime NYC 2026 – Meetups, Photo Ops +More!

There’s a whole floor dedicated to cosplay and it’s dubbed Destination Cosplay. It’s on the highest floor that the escalators can take you in the Javits Center, with everything you could want from meetups to repair center. Aside from the Cosplay Masquerade Contest, almost everything else that is officially cosplay is organized by Anime NYC to happen here.
The Mini-Museum
The floor welcomes you with a mini-museum at the entrance with a few chosen costumes. This year’s showcase features:

Photo Backdrops
Three individual photo backdrops have been set up for any cosplayer to shoot something fun for themselves. No sign ups or appointments necessary – just be civil with everyone until your turn comes. We did notice that several attendees thought ahead and brought phone stands and portable lights with them to take better pictures of themselves – a really good idea.
The backdrops available were:
- Hidden Mushroom Forest
- Quarter Moon under a Starry Night Sky
- Ito En’s baseball MVP Special, featuring home run legend Shohei Ohtani
- Anime NYC mascot
Cosplay Meetup Points
Several numbered meetup points had scheduled times for taking group photos of your favorite anime, including Dragon Ball, Hatsune Miku, Honkai: Rail Star, Demon Slayer, Haikyu, Street Fighter and more.
Cosplay Repair -by Paladins of Cosplay
Finally, the Paladins of Cosplay repair center was swamped with a stupefying number of cosplayers looking for help getting their wardrobe and accessories back in working condition.
From stitching gloves and broken high heel straps, to gluing back bazookas that had prematurely released the shell, these are the true unsung heroes doing what heroes do best without singing and dancing for likes on Tik Tok videos.
Unsanctioned
As a side note, there was an increased number of unsanctioned “photographers” claiming Javits floor space with their cartloads of gear; a lot more than years prior. There were also a lot more people with full suitcases of costumes, wigs, makeup and such also taking up space alongside them.
While it was thoughtful of them to do this on the outer ends of the convention center, it’s doubtful that they paid anything for taking over floorspace that’s meant for use by all attendees, some of whom I’d guess might also want to use that space for a quick photo or two. These people basically treat it as their own personal campsite by taking it over – and that’s not cool.
Random, But IS Cool
A couple of random photos of cosplay that you know the creators had put a lot of thought and effort into. The first feels like something out of Five Nights at Freddy’s, and the electric samurai has red LED highlights and stands several heads above the crowd.
