Brown Dust 2 (JRPG Gacha Videogame) First Live Event at Anime NYC 2025

Brown Dust 2 had a huge presence with their first big live event in the United States at Anime NYC. As a major sponsor, there’s a good chance you’d have picked up one of their lanyards and have seen their character banner at the Javits Center entrance.
If you entered the exhibit hall via escalator, their cosplay stage would be revealed as you got off, with attractive models portraying game characters and an MC announcing photo ops, games/quizzes and giveaways.

If this eye candy piqued your curiosity, then you could check out their game demos and pick up some free swag. You could even buy merch – but only if you got there early. And I do mean really early.
Their merch was SO in demand that they sold out within 30 minutes(?!?) of opening their doors.
So what is Brown Dust 2?

Brown Dust 2 is a free-to-play, turn-based Japanese Role Playing Game (JRPG) by Neowiz, a South Korea based company. It’s got nostalgic retro gaming vibes along the lines of Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger.
What sets Brown Dust 2 apart is:
- Super attractive artwork – some NSFW (age rating 18+)
- Different ways to play – by story, by character, by strategy
- New downloadable story chapters every month or two
- Merch – not available yet, but we’re told they’re working on it
- It’s FREE!
There are around 18 chapters you can play so far as Brown Dust 2 was launched in June of 2023. They just celebrated their 2-year anniversary, so they’re keeping pace with their monthly/bi-monthly chapter releases.
“But how do they make money?” you may be asking.
While the game itself is free, they have in-game purchases (gacha monetization) where you can buy rewards, costumes, exclusive gear, and things of that nature. So while you don’t have to buy anything to enjoy playing the game, you might miss out on that awesome looking armor or the limited edition high-damage capable weapon.
Anime NYC is Neowiz’s first big push promoting Brown Dust 2 in the USA, which so far has been growing organically without any huge marketing. Contrast that to Asia where it’s super popular and growing fast in the past year in Japan, South Korea, China – and in particular, Taiwan, as the number one grossing mobile game at the time of their second year anniversary.
