News: The Kone Mouse with Free-Spin/Tactile Scroll Wheel Toggle & 21 Mappable Buttons

Turtle Beach Kone II Air

Two Kone Series gaming mice by Turtle Beach are available now:

  • Kone II Air wireless mouse with 21 mappable buttons (MSRP $119.99 US)
  • Kone II wired mouse with 23 mappable buttons (MSRP $69.99 US)

Aside from the wire (or lack of), there’s one huge difference.

While the wired Kone II has [DPI up] and [DPI down] buttons behind the scroll wheel, the wireless Kone II Air replaces [DPI up] with a mechanical switch. This switch (button) toggles between free spin/tactile mode for the scroll wheel.

That one change explains the difference in mappable buttons. Since 2 actions can be mapped on each button (regular mode + Easy-Shift secondary mode), the “loss” of [DPI up] gives the Kone II Air 21 mappables while the wired Kone II (which retains [DPI up]) has 23.

From a usability standpoint, I’d personally opt for the wireless version with the scroll wheel thingee (not to mention the great estimated battery life; up to 350 hrs Bluetooth, 130 hrs 2.4GHz wireless).
