Kayou is a manufacturer of collecting and trading cards. They’re headquartered in China and have large in-house design teams that work closely with brand owners like Hasbro for My Little Pony and Japanese studios that own brands like Naruto.

While Kayou has many brand licenses for sale world-wide, they’ve entered the American market with the following:

My Little Pony

  • Fun Moments / Rainbow Series (Entry tier)
  • Moon Series (Mid tier)
  • Stars Edition (Top tier)
  • TCG (Trading Card Game)

Naruto

  • Earth Scrolls Series
  • Heavenly Scrolls (Jin) Series

All sets have between 120-190 cards. For My Little Pony, Fun Moments/Rainbow contains ~120-140, Moon contains close to 190 and Star will have a lower count of 80-120 because of its premium design (they’re more expensive to produce). According to Kayou, all series will launch 4-6 sets of cards per year. That’s a lot of new art.

Card Rarity and Collectibility

To manage expectations, you should know that the entry level series have few chase (rare) cards but are the most affordable. Mid tier cards have a nicer quality to them and have more chase cards. Premium tier cards cost the most, but are also made with the highest quality (e.g. thicker cardstock, reflective surfaces, etc.)

You’ll know if you have a rarer chase card if you see a Certificate of Authenticity. These are reflective K squares that can be found embedded on the back of the card.

If you’re serious into collecting and have a card that needs grading, Kayou works with graders like PSA, TAG and CGC for rarer cards.

Special Promo Cards and Campaigns

Kayou has somehow inserted 20 signed PR cards of a My Little Pony poster piece by Andy Price that he drew and painted during New York Comic Con (watch the video at 2:28). You can try your luck by picking up a pack of MLP Moon Series, NYCC Edition.

There’s also the Chase the Magic Campaign where 1 of 30 lucky people who pull a Diamond ZR card from a MLP Moon Edition pack can enter to win a design session with Andy Price to create their own MLP card.

Planned Releases

For those who live stateside, the following releases should be coming at some point:

  • Demon Slayers
  • Monster Jam
  • Tokidoki
  • K-Pop Demon Hunters (probably)

Kayou currently employs over 450 designers in 14 studios, with each studio working on different IP’s (Intellectual Properties).

Young is a Jack-of-many-trades. He's lived/worked on several continents for all sorts of companies (and has had his own too.) He meditates with origami and likes coffee, though he really should lay off that stuff.
