The Asus TUF Dash F15 (2022 model FX517Z) is currently one of the best gaming laptops for under $1000 (on sale). You get the latest Intel 12th gen CPU with 10 cores, Nvidia 3060 GPU with MUX switch, and futureproofed input/output with Thunderbolt 4 (40gb/s).

At 4.41 lbs, it’s super light for a gaming laptop, but it also means there’s less space for the cooling system; when pushed hard, the air gets really hot. Some annoyances: The I/O ports are also too close together & how the hinge doesn’t open more.

Otherwise, I think it’s designed well. Asus has done a great job balancing performance vs weight at a great price.

Major specs:

  • CPU: Intel i7-12650H (10 cores -6 big, 4 little)
  • GPU: Nvidia 3060 RTX 6GB @105W with MUX switch (now 3070 for same price)
  • RAM: 16GB DDR5 4800MHz (2 slots total)
  • Storage: 512GB m.2 PCIe NVMe (2 slots total)
  • Display: 15.6″ 1920×1080 IPS (144Hz, 62.5% sRGB)

Ports:

  • 1x USB-C Thunderbolt 4 (40gb/s)
  • 1x USB-C w/Display & Power Delivery (10gb/s)
  • 2x USB-A (5gb/s)
  • 1x HDMI
  • 3.5 headphone/mic jack

Network:

  • Ethernet
  • WiFi 6 (802.11ax)
  • Bluetooth 5.2
