Short Fuse – Diffuse the Bombs, Quick! A Video Game by minituna @Anime NYC 2026

Game: Short Fuse
Developer: minituna Studios
Interviewer (FL): First L00k
Interviewee (CL): Charles Reverand – Director & Programmer
FL: Tell me about the game, what’s it about?
CR: So Short Fuse is all about diffusing bombs as fast as you can. The main gimmick is to diffuse only the red wires; everything else (blue, yellow, green wires) will explode.
The bombs aren’t realistic bombs. There’s dynamite, but also things like potatoes, cakes, or even nesting matryoshka dolls that are bombs. And if you pick up the printer (which you can buy in the game) you can actually print out flat bombs. As you go along, you’ll find out more about the Short Fuse company and how they have some really weird, wacky stuff going on.

FL: This game looks like a lot of fun for casual gamers.
You can pick different floppy disks in the game to let you upgrade or change your runs. It’s old-school, but also with new school Roblox mechanics. So if you get far enough, you can get items that almost turns it into an idle game; you build up your runs to make things happen for you and you play more like a manager.
There’s a lot of different pathways you can take (in terms of game play), to play the game you want, the way you want.
FL: What’s the story behind the player in this game? Are you like, a bomb expert or perhaps just a guy who received a package in the mail one day?
You’re a newly hired quality assurance employee. At the beginning of the game you start a tutorial – where your boss isn’t available! So a temp guy comes in to tell what to do.
First a computer comes in and you’re instructed on how to defuse it. This sets you on your way to learn as you go. But of course if it explodes, it’s all over.
FL: Tell me about the development of Short Fuse.
It’s programmed in Unity and C-sharp. We started this around two and a half years ago as a Game Jam project in college but continued volunteering to expand on it part-time. We’re trying to bring it up to a level of polish that can compete with other games to really stand out.
FL: Tell me about your company, minituna.
The company is about a year old. Originally, the people from our current team were working on two different games, so when we merged to work on Short Fuse, we combined the first half of their name and the first half of our name to become minituna.
FL: Where can we find more information about Short Fuse?
We have a Steam page and you can wishlist Short Fuse today. We’re also posting (Discord) devlogs about every month and a YouTube short every week. There’s no release date yet, but we’re looking at sometime in the next two years.
We have a website, minitunastudios.com.
